Kentucky Lake History
Covering over 2,400 miles of shoreline Kentucky Lake was created when a dam was erected over the Tennessee River that resulted in the largest man-made lake in the eastern United States.
One major reason for the construction of this TVA watershed was flood control but it has had the added benifits of providing hydro-electric power as well as numerous receation and sport opportunities.

While commercial, residential and recreational development has occurred on the outer shorelines of Kentucky and Barkley Lake a very special pennisula of land between these two has been left for wilderness and wildlife.
Another interesting spot to visit is the small town of Grand Rivers at the conflux of Kentucky and Barkley Lakes, dining, antiquing, live entertainment and shopping are just few of the fun things you'll find to do in Grand Rivers.

Although crappie and largemouth bass catch a lot of fisherman, the Kentucky Lake area is home to many different species for anglers to enjoy. White bass, small mouth bass, stripers, wipers, cat fish of all demeanors and even saugeye (walleye - sauger cross) are yours for the taking.
What would a week on the lake be without a boat to take full advantage of the area. The following marinas offer a variety of boats including jet skis, for daily and weekly rental.

And not to be forgotten is Kentucky Lake's slightly smaller sister, Barkley Lake. Formed by the watershed of the Cumberland River, Barkley Lake meets Kentucky Lake and their tail waters eventually spill into the Ohio River at Paducah, Kentucky.
